Mauritius is
one of the
most
beautiful
Islands in
the Africa.
Climate
In the central parts of the island, at about 600 meters above sea level, the average maximum daytime temperature varies form above 20 Degree Celsius in August to above 26 Degree Celsius in February. Along costal areas, the temperatures are generally 3 to 5 degrees higher; the western and northern regions are warmer and relatively drier that the east and south. The rain gods bless the island for approximate 9 months in a year and the year is equally divided in summer and winter seasons. |

|
| Mauritius is a democratic state based on the westminster model. Sixty-two members of parliament are elected every five year by universal adult suffrage. The presidentis the head of the state but constitutional power is vested in the Prime Minister and the Cabinet |
| Economy |
| The Mauritian economy is base on the export of sugar, products from the Export processing zone and Tourism. Presently Mauritius is at and industrial crossroads. Since 1989 the Government has established a Stock Exchange whose main objective is to finance the increased investment needs of the economy. The offshore banking business aims at making Mauritius an offshore financial center. As a major tourist major European, African and Asian cities as well as Australia and other islands of the Indian Ocean. Its national carrier, Air Mauritius, is operating 20 different routes.

| Mauritius time is 4 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and three hours ahead of Central European Time. Indian time is 90 minutes ahead of the Mauritian time. |
| Health Requirements |
| Yellow fever: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers over 1 year of age and coming form infected areas. Infected areas are those areas, which the WHO includes in endemic zones.

| Malaria: There is no malaria risk in Mauritius or Rodrigues Island |
| VAT |
| A value added tax of 15% is included in all bills relating to goods and services including hotel and restaurant bills. |
| Currency |
| The monetary unit is the Mauritian Rupee (RS.) which is divided into 100 cents (cs). Coins exist as: 1, 5 and 10 rupees, and 20 and 50-cent pieces. Notes are in the following denominations: 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 notes. Foreign currency notes, drafts, traveller�s cheques and other banking instruments may be imported into Mauritius without restrictions. |

| What to wear |
| Formal Wear is required in the College. Casual wear is strictly not allowed. |
| Take your casual wear at best beaches. In the months of June, July, August and September carry some light woolens for the cool evenings. |

- Citizens of Mauritius.
- Residents of Mauritius under Immigration Act.
- The Spouse of a citizen of Mauritius.
- The Child or stepchild or lawfully adopted child of persons referred to at (1) and (2) above.
- Holders of Diplomatic passports other than those issued by the Government of Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Sudan.
- Crew of a vessel traveling on duty or in transit to join another vessel
- Holders of Laissez passer by the United Nations, SADC or other internationally recognized organizations.
- Such other persons as the Prime Minister’s office may approve

| No VISA required for: |
| As from feb 2007 national of Republic of India, visiting Mauritius on holidays for a period of stay up to 60 days. They should apply and obtain a VISA. Before undertaking any travel to Mauritius if they intend to stay more than 60 days and for any other purpose. |
| AApplication of extension of stay may be made to the passport and Immigration Officer, Sterling House, 11-19 Lislet Geoffroy Street, Port Louis, Tel; (230) 210-9312/9313/9314/9315/9316/9317. Fax: 210-9322, provided national of these countries hold valid return tickets, valid passports or internationally recognized travel documents and have adequate funds to meet the cost of stay. |
| Security |
| A tourist police has been set up to ensure security in tourist zones. An anti terrorist law has also been proclaimed. A specific law relating to all tourist activities and corrupt practices has also bee voted. The following essential pieces of advice are meant for you: |
- Keep an eye on personal belongings at all times
- Be careful when withdrawing money form a cashpoint
- Avoid wearing high priced jewellery
- Do not leave anything inside your car
- Use only recognized operator or suppliers, (for excursions or purchases)
- Keep your passports, plane tickets, jewellery of value and large sums of money in the safe of your room
- For sea excursions do not rent boats with inadequate security standards.
- During individual sea excursions, always notify the perso responsible of your boathouse
